My Conversation with Richard Photo Lab!

In this episode, I sat down with Colleen Taylor from Richard Photo Lab! Colleen is the "Marketing Maven" as I like to say, and we had such a great conversation that I can't wait to share with you!

HIGHLIGHTS

Background on Richard Photo Lab

Richard Photo Lab is a film lab that started around 1970. It started in a small lab space in Hollywood, but the following continued to grow. Richard Photo Lab values high-quality work and consistency. They also work with digital and hybrid photographers on prints and post-production work.

Consistency in your work is essential.

When your work is consistent, it becomes recognizable and potential clients know what they can expect when they work with you. This helps build trust and expectations beforehand, which is essential to winning clients. It also establishes you as someone who is able to consistently produce high-quality work.

Scanning film isn't like Photoshop or Lightroom. Richard Photo Lab can share what they need to give photographers what they want. Learning how to create your own light can really make this process easier! Lighting is the building block of all images. When you're the one in control of your lighting, you get concise, consistent results in the end.

Film Boot Camp

Richard Photo Lab and I are working on a fun project called Film Boot Camp! This will be an in-person workshop February 11th at Richard Photo Lab in California. We are teaching my one-light approach to lighting in the morning and in the afternoon, we are teaching the lab side.

I personally love getting my work back from Richard Photo Lab, so I'm excited for the afternoon session. We'll get to see the behind-the-scenes of everything they do! Everyone will get the chance to scan some of their own film.

If you're hesitant to work with a lab, remember that if you're not outsourcing post-production, you're using time that could be spent booking more clients and shooting more sessions. You can register for the Film Boot Camp here!
