100th Episode Celebration - The Best of the Beyond Natural Light Photography Podcast

I can’t even believe it, but this is the 100th episode of the Beyond Natural Light Photography Podcast! I started this podcast in June 2020 as a way to connect with my community and keep myself busy while my studio was closed, and I’ve learned a lot along the way.

It’s been a really fun and interesting journey, so thank you for being here. For our 100th episode, we’re highlighting some of our most popular podcast episodes!

Episode 078: Is it Fear or Intuition? And How to Tell the Difference.

In this episode, I analyze the differences between fear and intuition. Intuition is soft and quiet. When I'm in touch with my intuition, it feels like a knowing in my body. There's a reason why "listen to your gut" is a phrase we're all so familiar with. I think we all recognize that body-centered feeling of true intuition. It's grounding and you know it in your core.

Fear tends to be loud. It's almost always in my head. It repeats itself constantly; it feels like nervous spinning with all sorts of "what if" thinking. Intuition is positive and comes from a place of love, whereas fear is negative and focuses on "what's wrong with you".

Episode 003: Kate Weingarten: 6K in 4 Hours!

In this interview with student Kate Weingarten, she shares that she earned a whopping 6k in four hours through hosting mini sessions in her studio.

When I asked her if she would have been able to accomplish this using natural light, her answer was a resounding "no". Kate explained that she was able to lock her settings in because her lighting stayed the same throughout the sessions. Kate also let me know that most of her clients from that day were so satisfied with the photos that they upgraded to a bigger package. Kate's lighting skills made all the difference!

Episode 008: Jennifer Brotchie: Rebranding After Moving

In this interview with student Jennifer Brotchie, we discuss her experience of moving from Hawaii to California and how she navigated that move in her business.

Jennifer's thriving photography business in Hawaii was built on her digital work, but when she moved to California she decided to rebrand and market herself as a film photographer. The Six-Figure Studio helped ease Jennifer through this transition, making the road to success in her new endeavor much simpler to navigate.

Episode 004: How to Avoid Harsh "Flashy" Looking Light with Strobes & Flash

In this episode, I talk about the size and placement of your light in order to avoid that "flashy" looking light. The size of your modifier affects the quality of your light. If your goal with your lighting is to create natural looking light, you need to know that the bigger your modifier relative to your receptor, the softer your light is going to be.

People also tend to make mistakes with the placement of their modifiers. The further away the modifier is, the harsher your light is going to be. If you want soft light, then you'll want to place the modifier closer to your subject.

Episode 065: An Honest Conversation with Three Photographers about Business, Marketing, and Success

This is one of my favorite episodes! I sat down with three of the alumni from The Six-Figure Studio. Molly, Pordis and David all have very different business models and have had major success through the group coaching program, and are now participants of my mastermind, Amplified.

In this brief clip, we talk about how the clarity piece of The Six-Figure Studio is the gift that keeps on giving. It gives you confidence and the ability to say "no" to work that's not aligned with your business model. It can also serve you to go through it more than once; Molly and David discuss that it felt more like a life lesson to be revisited throughout the different seasons of running a business.
