The Power of Setting Goals

At the beginning of each year I sit down and think about the goals I have for myself and my business and I write them all out.

I believe there is a lot of power in getting your goals down on paper. After all, it’s just not real until it’s written down!  In fact, you are 42% more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down!

Why? Because when you have clearly defined goals that are written out,  it’s easier to stay focused.  You have something to work toward and a constant reminder of where you want to go!

True story

Last January I wrote “Teach on CreativeLive” as one of my goals.  At the time it seemed completely unattainable.  Total pie in the sky.  But guess what?  By the end of the year I’d taught four classes on CreativeLive.  Four!  And I’m hoping to teach more this year!

Why did that happen?

It’s not because I have magical powers.  It’s because I made it a priority.  I wrote it down.  And seeing it in writing, every day (I post my goals for the year on the wall in my office) made me do the work so that when the opportunity presented itself, I was ready .

So what are your goals for the year?

Maybe they’re on the smaller side, like book one extra client a month.  Or maybe they are bigger, like teach a workshop.  Whatever they are, write them down! And then I post them somewhere you can see them every day!
