In 2007 I was at crossroads in my photography business.

I was a stay-home mom, caring for my brand new twins and trying desperately to make my business work.

And I was doing this just as the economy was falling into the worst recession since the great depression.

Scary times.

I watched so many of my friends in the photography industry close down their business because they believed that "now is NOT the time to be growing a business".

They were scared.

We all were.

And I'll be honest. I thought about doing the same thing.

But I knew that I was a really great photographer.

And I really wanted to be able to support my family doing what I loved.

Do The Work

So instead of closing down, I buckled down...

I used the slowness in my business to get better at my business.

I brought clarity to my brand by focusing on what it is I do and who I serve.

I created a communication plan so that my messaging and marketing reached the right people and actually converted them into clients.

And I created systems for my client communication, onboarding, and sales as well as for my session-flow, workflow and marketing.

These systems brought consistency to every aspect of my work and helped me grow, quickly, despite the economic climate of the time.

When the recession was finally over, my business was stronger than it had been before.

Why Am I Telling You This?

Because 2020 was an insane year.

There is no denying that it has been hard.

But I also know that it is possible to build and grow your business, even in hard times.
