Welcome Back to the Podcast

Welcome to the Beyond Natural Light Photography podcast, or perhaps I should say, welcome BACK to the Beyond Natural Light Photography podcast!

It has been a minute since I’ve shared an episode! I wanted to tell you a bit about why I disappeared, what I’ve been doing, why I’m back and what I have planned moving forward.

First of all, I took a break from creating the podcast because I just needed a break. The last year has been one of the hardest years of my life. I run two business, my studio and my education company, and I’m an industry educator, so I travel a lot. I absolutely love that aspect of my business, but it still takes up a lot of time. I’m a mom, a wife and a friend…and with everything I do, I try to sprinkle in some time for myself.

Back in August 2021, I lost my dad suddenly and unexpectedly. It really shook me. He and I were very close, and I wasn’t expecting to lose him the way I did. Over the past year, in addition to all the things I do, I was grieving. Grieving is hard, and it really tears you open. There is no getting away from it or making it better. The only way to get through it is to go through it. For me, that meant I needed to slow down and just honor that process.

That's what I’ve been doing and where I've been.

HIGHLIGHTS

I missed this community!

All that said, I’ve missed this community! It's funny though because if I’m being honest, I’m not even sure how many people even listen to this.

But I’ve missed it. I’ve missed talking to the people who DO listen, and I’ve missed sharing all the things I’ve learned over the course of my 20+ year career. Wanting to share what I know and wanting to help other photographers has brought me back.

Going forward, I have big plans for this podcast! In my heart of hearts, I’m a teacher. I went to graduate school for it, got certified and the whole nine yards. I’m also a teacher at heart, because I LOVE helping other people grow and reach their full potential. So, that is what this podcast is all about!

I’m going to continue sharing what I’ve learned over the course of my photography career with you, but I’m also going to reach out to my friends in the industry and invite them to share as well. I’m going to ask the students in my community to join us here. I’m even thinking of doing a monthly book review or something fun like that! I’m an avid reader and read like about one book a week (mostly about marketing). I’d love to share some of my favorites with you!

If you do listen to this podcast and are excited about all the good things to come, please let me know! The best way to do that is by leaving a review on whatever platform you listen on. That helps other people find the podcast and gives me and my team some really valuable feedback.

Most of all, thank you! Thank you for being in my community and thank you for taking the time to be here and listen to what I have to say!
