Student Success Stories with Samantha Hardcastle

On this episode, I sat down with The Missing Link graduate Samantha Hardcastle from Samantha Hardcastle Photography. She is a Colorado based photographer, mother of 5 and lover of diet coke. She’s been in business for 2 years and really enjoys getting to know clients and creating artwork of their loved ones they can cherish.

When she started out, she didn't know anything about strobes and flash. In October 2021, she created a studio space in her house and decided to learn how to use strobes and flash.

HIGHLIGHTS

What made you invest in The Missing Link?

Samantha really liked the simplicity of The Missing Link with the single light. She felt like she was overcomplicating lighting and wanted to learn how to create that soft, beautiful light. She said she still goes back to the program and refers to different modules often!

She had her first family of four to practice this one-light approach. Samantha also took Dark and Moody to try out some different techniques.

We bonded over our love for this one-light approach, as well as metering. Metering makes your life SO much easier, and it's basically science. It works every single time!

How has lighting confidence helped your business?

Samantha feels less hesitant to talk about what she does and respond to inquiries. She feels more confident and capable in her business! She knows that she can create her desired look, and this allows her to focus more on serving her clients during sessions instead of worrying about her light.

If you're nervous about starting with strobes and flash, Samantha encourages you to just get started! Join a supportive group, try it out and learn to troubleshoot. You may struggle with it at first, but you will improve and learn to love it.
