Kate Weingarten: 6K in 4 Hours!

Today we welcome to our show Kate Weingarten, a Chicagoan and newborn and family photographer who USED to shoot with natural light only.

Kate was hesitant to join my class “The Missing Link,” which teaches photographers how to use artificial light using strobes and flash. She decided she’d give it a try, and only a few months later, her business transformed.

HIGHLIGHTS

Kate’s story:

Kate began by following my Instagram, not knowing that I shot with strobes and flash instead of natural light.

“I started to see all the ‘behind the scenes’ and lighting setups, and I would skip them because it would stress me out.”

She used to go to the client’s homes and pray that the Chicago weather and the house would provide enough light for her to work with. She often had to postpone shoots weeks out, causing a massive downfall in her income.

After all the inconsistency, she finally decided that creating artificial light was a skill she should learn and joined the course.

Since she has completed ‘The Missing Link,’ she is shooting only with strobes & flash in her very own studio.

Not only is she working with more consistent light and better conditions, but she also cut her editing time in half!

How did Kate make 6K in 4 hours??

Kate decided last minute to book a Santa for a few hours and offer mini Christmas sessions.

She locked in the same settings in her camera and busted out 10-minute sessions. Since everything was so consistent, she could get more than the promised five photos and even upgraded multiple clients to full sessions.

In just four short hours, she had turned about six-thousand dollars in profits.

Her photos were beautiful, and her clients were happy. Win-win.

Why it’s important to learn artificial light:

There’s no doubt that learning this new skill is an investment, but look at Kate as an example.

She bought some used equipment and the Missing Link, spending less than $1,000, and was able to make 6X that initial investment in 4 HOURS.

Kate really didn’t think that angles and all the technical talk was for her, so she always felt intimated. But the value of having a client who wants a similar photo that you’ve already produced and being able to re-create that same light is priceless.

“I feel like right now I can offer very high-quality images and charge accordingly.”

“What if I don’t have time?”

Your success won’t happen overnight. There will still be a learning curve that will take time to get over.

But the Missing Link modules are short and jam-packed with information, making it easier to get through the sections. If Kate, an extremely busy mom and entrepreneur, can, you can too, my friend!

I also provide a Facebook group with a strong community, and I personally check regularly to help with advice and mentoring.

“For sure, it’s an investment, but it’s an investment you’ll never regret making.”

“What if I’m not a film photographer?”

The medium doesn’t matter. It’s the technique that does.

Seriously, The Missing Link is for anybody, ask Kate.
